Artist Talk with Tomokazu Matsuyama at Asia Society

Tomokazu Matsuyama will be giving an artists talk alongside Ushio Shinohara in conjunction with Asian Contemporary Art Week at Asia Society and Museum.

From Asia Society:
Come hear a lively discussion about Japanese culture and history between New York-based artists Ushio Shinohara (b. 1932) and Tomokazu Matsuyama (b. 1976). Shinohara made his iconic status as a Neo-Dada artist in Japan in the late 1950s and moved to New York in 1969. Following in Shinohara’s footsteps, Matsuyama, who has lived in New York since 2001, breaks-up, remixes, and reshapes images of Japanese art. Moderated by Asia Society Associate Curator Miwako Tezuka.

Free admission. Limited Seating. Tickets available on a first come, first served basis.

David Ellis Wins New York 2011 PULSE Prize

PULSE Contemporary Art Fair is pleased to announce that David Ellis, represented by Joshua Liner Gallery, New York, is recipient of the New York 2011 PULSE Prize. The prize was awarded this afternoon to Liner on behalf of Ellis by Director Cornell DeWitt in an informal ceremony where he was joined by PULSE Committee members Mark Moore, of Culver City, CA's Mark Moore Gallery; and Stefan Roepke of Cologne, Germany Galerie Stefan Roepke.
Ellis' lively works, exhibited for the first time at the fair, include an overhead video of his creation of a large scale painting - and the resulting stills - along with wall mounted sculptures of resin-encased record collections. But the show stealer was True Value (Paint fukket), which incorporated electronics and elements of a player piano into dozens of paint buckets to create a crowd-pleasing animatronic tympani.

Joshua Liner Gallery and David Ellis at PULSE New York 2011

Joshua Liner Gallery exhibited at PULSE New York this past weekend from March 3 - 6. The fair was very well received by many collectors and fair attendees. The gallery displayed a solo project with artist David Ellis as part of the IMPULSE section of the fair. On view was a brand new kinetic sculpture by Ellis entitled True Value (Paint Fukette.) The sculpture includes a 34 minute musical score composed by Roberto Carlos Lange. Below is a video of a short section of this piece.
